The importance of quantifying fraud
Being able to quantify fraud and measure the damages related to fraud, enables organizations to realize the losses due to fraud and take appropriate actions. But it also requires a focused leadership and an organization in place that have the know how to act proactively and quickly when fraud attacks occur. How much fraud is there out there? And how can operators be sure they have the problem under control? Well, nobody really knows the full extent of fraud. Operators, who claim that they have not been exposed to fraud, either lie, or have not yet been able to detect it. In general, operators do not publish statistics on fraud, and industry associations or national government agencies can only rely on what the operators are reporting. This is why the global telecommunications fraud statistics only can be an estimate.

Seizing the opportunities for the carrier trading market
Interconnect has turned into a fast moving commodity market,
characterized by diversity in pricing, quality levels, long and short-term
contracts. Particularly the voice trading market is under pressure.
But by having an end customer view and knowing how to capitalize
on the opportunities, mobile service providers can still find ways to be
competitive and profitable on this market.

Roaming - from cash cow to end-user follower
Does an operator really need a clearing house?
There are about 800 telecom operators on the global arena. Size of the operator and market determine if the operator outsource or has an in-house solution for partner settlement and roaming billing. Far from everybody needs a full-service offering from the clearing house. Operators are actively seeking alternatives out there on everything from intra-group clearing to home CDR-processing.
According to Basset Telecom Report - a new study done among operators world-wide - the trend
continues to move the roaming function in-house as much as possible.

Basset Telecom Report #1:
How to stay ahead in a risky marketplace
The global telecom arena is undergoing rapid change, mainly due to a technology upshift in the next generation networks and a wave of deregulation swiping operator markets all over the world. This is opening up for a diversified marketplace, which makes it difficult to foresee what type of services users are willing to pay for. Flat-fee for data traffic is considered a must, while paying $4.99 for “Angry Birds HD” is a no-brainer.
The winning operator in this competitive marketplace must have a clear strategy for the next generation networks, understanding their customers and the right set of tools for analyzing their revenue streams.
